Samsung’s Big Bet On Foldables Keeps Growing — And Apple Might Just Blink
Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is just around the corner — happening July 9 — and if you’re even a little into mobile tech, this one’s worth watching.
Why? Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, and possibly a budget-friendly Z Flip 7 FE. We're also expecting updates to the Galaxy Watch and Buds.
But the real story here isn’t just what’s coming — it’s how far Samsung’s foldables have come and how the Apple-Samsung rivalry might finally bend (pun intended) into new territory.
A Quick Look Back: Foldables Then Vs. Now
Remember the first Galaxy Fold in 2019? It was clunky, creased and fragile. Fast forward to 2025, and the Fold 7 is rumored to be the slimmest foldable yet, with top-tier specs like a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
And the Flip 7? According to rumors and reports, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to have a full-view cover screen, an improved hinge with a less visible crease and will likely use the new Exynos 2500 chip.
There’s also talk of a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE version, which could be more affordable at around $750, without any major spec cuts, and powered by the Exynos 2400 chip.

But Here’s The Real Twist: Where’s Apple?
Apple has stayed fold-free for now. However, rumors are circulating that Cupertino is developing a foldable iPhone for release in 2026 or 2027. Reports say Apple’s model will use Samsung Display tech and might skip the crease entirely. If true, that could shift the whole game.
What More To Watch For
Apart from the foldable and flip phones, Samsung is also expected to unveil at least three new smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 8 series with a new squircle design, the return of the rotating bezel on the Classic variant, and refreshed colors for the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The event will also spotlight Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8 software update, which will debut on the new foldables and bring fresh features to older Galaxy devices later this year.
Fans should also watch out for exciting product teasers, including a glimpse of Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, Project Moohan and the much-rumored Tri-Fold phone, which could launch in select markets this fall.
Overall, Galaxy Unpacked is shaping up to be a packed showcase for all things new in Samsung’s hardware and software ecosystem.
